Change to Physician Quality Reporting System

Previously known as the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI), this program provides physicians with incentives to participate in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS). The AOA’s Clinical Assessment Program (CAP) is a qualified registry for the PQRS program. CMS has awarded bonus payments for participating on a decreasing level for the past few years, but 2012 will be the last year that physicians can participate without threat of penalty. All physicians who do not participate in the 2013 PQRS program will be subject to a payment adjustment equal to -1.5% of their Medicare Physician Fee Schedule allowed charges in 2015, REGARDLESS OF PARTICIPATION IN 2014 AND 2015. All physicians who participate in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 PQRS programs will have the opportunity to receive a bonus payment of 0.5% of Medicare Physician Fee Schedule allowed charges for each year of participation.
